“Youth are the agents of change because they are most adaptive to development, regenerate innovative ideas, and interact quickly with technological advantages.” This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. (H.C.) Ir. Airlangga Hartarto, M.B.A., M.M.T at the Y20 Indonesia 2022 Kickoff Meeting (19/2). This event is the opening event of the Y20 Summit 2022, which brings together Y20 delegates from all G20 member countries for the first time, as well as a discussion forum for delegates to discuss the 4 priority issues of Y20 Indonesia 2022, namely Youth Employment, Digital Transformation, Sustainable and Liveable Planet, and Diversity and Inclusion.
Ir. Airlangga Hartarto added that as the forum for the future leaders, Y20 is expected to support G20 in strengthening social and economics between the youth member countries in order to recover together, ensuring the policies that enable inclusive, strong, and sustainable growth in the context of recover stronger.
In line with this, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. H. Zainudin Amali, S.E., M.Sc., also expressed his support for all the activities and initiatives initiated by the youth and believed that the youth as future leaders had many creative thoughts and ideas that would help them to grow and survive in the current pandemic situation.
The Covid-19 pandemic has fainted the global economy and development. Many people are suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic. In the field of education, the pandemic has forced the closure of many schools, colleges, training institutions for a prolonged time. Co-Sherpa G20 Indonesia, Dr. Dian Triansyah Djani stated that this is why Y20 is an important element in the discussion and decision-making process to fight for a comprehensive exit strategy to get out of this crisis.
“For the past two years, we have been faced with challenges unlike any we have faced in our lives, and yet our strength in our empathy, creativity, innovation, and resilience has brought us this far. No one can deny that the youth have played a big part in the recovery effort of COVID-19.” said by Rahayu Saraswati, Co-Chair of Y20 Indonesia 2022. Sara added that this year, Y20 Indonesia brought the theme “From Recovery to Resilience: Rebuilding the Youth Agenda Beyond COVID-19” which is in line with the G20 theme, “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.
The Troika Panel Talkshow session, which featured speakers from Y20 Italy, Alberta Pelino, Y20 Indonesia, Michael Sianipar, and Y20 India, Karanvir Singh, became a discussion forum where delegates actively participated in discussing how the role of youth has had an impact and will continue to contribute to changing the world for the better. Also, on this occasion, Michael Sianipar, as Co-Chair of Y20 Indonesia 2022, invites Y20 delegates to think about real change and continuity. “I hopes to work together to ensure that what is discussed and decided at this year’s Y20 Summit will have a significant impact.” expressed Michael.

Y20 Indonesia 2022 will hold pre-summit events in 4 (four) cities in Indonesia: Palembang in March, Mandalika in April, Balikpapan in May, and Manokwari in June. The highlight of this event is the Y20 2022 Summit, held in July in the cities of Jakarta and Bandung.
